Psychological Intervention
Individual Therapy
Psychotherapy is provided by two licensed clinical health psychologists who have
specialized experience treating a wide array of physical and mental health problems
and are also a part of our Pain Management Program staff. Cognitive/behavioral therapy
is used to help patients more effectively manage their mood, stress, pain and/or
other stress-related health problems and is tailored to meet the specific needs
of each patient. The Pain Management Program psychologists will generally meet with
outpatients on a weekly basis. Using a biopsychosocial approach, psychologists teach
individual coping skills and integrate pain management strategies into family, vocational
and recreational domains.
While a patient is enrolled in the Pain Management Program, they will be provided
an average of two psychotherapy sessions per week. Involvement of family members
in therapy is strongly encouraged since family relationships play a substantial
role in a person’s pain experience.
